MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research laboratory hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden as well as internationally, with state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually, conducting ground-breaking experiments in materials and life sciences using the brilliant X-ray light.

The MAX IV Controls and IT team (KITS) deliver solutions to the whole MAX IV organisation in the areas of control system hardware, controls software applications, infrastructure and networking, information management and scientific software. This is a dynamic and highly challenging environment and requires close collaboration with the staff in order to understand the needs and be effective in forming solutions. We are around 50 people in total who work in 5 domains in a well organised and agile way. We hold values of lean management, knowledge spread, user autonomy, continuous improvement and flexibility as guiding principles for our work.

The smooth functioning of the MAX IV synchrotron facility relies on the efficient and flexible operation of the computing infrastructure.

Experiments located at the MAX IV beamlines collect data for scientific analysis. These data sets need to be stored and made accessible to compute resources. For this, the MAX IV IT Infrastructure team is operating a tiered high-performance storage system designed for high I/O rates, large volumes, high availability and long-term preservation. The challenges to the system design come from the ever-increasing data rates provided by new generations of detector systems, as well as the raising capabilities of the HPC infrastructure and scientific applications.

We are looking for a new member to enlarge our data storage engineering team. The successful candidate will act as the application expert for storage systems with the goal of maximizing its efficient use. She/he will be interacting closely with MAX IV researchers and control system software developers advising them on the storage aspects, supporting the development of applications using the high performance storage, as well as collecting requirements in order for the IT Infrastructure team to make informed decision on the evolution of the storage system design.

The application expert will also be the go-to person for identifying and correcting storage performance issues as might arise from the high demand from the application side. We expect the application expert to participate in collaborative projects within MAX IV, other Lund University units (e.g. LUNARC) and national computing infrastructures (SNIC, SUNET).

 Required qualifications:

- Experience with use and operation of cluster storage systems
- Experience with storage APIs
- Solid understanding of the Linux operating system
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Fluent in English

 Additional desired experience:

- Experience with GPFS/Spectrum Scale a strong plus
- Programming skills in one of: C/C++, python, go
- Experience in High Performance Computing (HPC)
- Experience working in scientific environment

On call services may apply in the future.
