Arbetsuppgifter
Som mekanikkonstruktör kommer du att ansvara för att uppdatera och justera ritningar i enlighet med gällande krav och behov. Du arbetar nära kollegor och andra intressenter för att säkerställa att ändringar genomförs korrekt och effektivt. Rollen kräver att du följer de säkerhetsskyddsbestämmelser som gäller och i vissa fall kan det även medföra krav på specifikt medborgarskap.

About the role:

We are seeking to appoint a Technician to join our Neutron Chopper Systems group. A neutron chopper is a specialised electromechanical device that can shape a particle beam using disks that rotate at very high speeds (20,000 rpm). As a Technician for Neutron Chopper Systems at ESS, you will play a key role in supporting the design, development, and maintenance of complex control, electrical and mechanical systems integral to the operation of the facility. You will provide expert technical advice to electrical, mechatronics, control and mechanical engineers, offering insights on production methods, best practices, and process improvements as needed.

Your main areas of responsibilities as a Technician for Neutron Chopper Systems will include:


• Maintenance, assembly, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and testing of electrical, electronic and mechanical high speed rotating systems (motors, PLC, controllers, servo drives, cabinets, sensors, cabling).
• Cabinet/rack integration, including layout, mounting of components, wiring of signal and power cabling, and final system verification.
• Routing and terminating electrical and data cabling (including shielding, crimping and connecting and measuring) in accordance with ESS standards.
• Assisting in vibration and balancing tests of rotating components to ensure safe and reliable operation at high speeds.
• To offer expert technical advice to electrical, mechatronics and control engineers in relation to productions methods, best practice and as required.
• Handling workshop equipment, tools, including small soldering. Small and large component assembly and handling (including components >100kg).
• Execution of the R&D, testing programs and quality control process, as required.
• Procurement of electrical electronic and control parts and keeping stock control and inventory.
• Maintaining the chopper facilities ready for use and ensuring the safety of these working spaces.
• Other workshop related tasks, including administrative aspects and documentation.

Some limited travelling and working abroad may be required. This is a permanent position with a six-month probationary period and is based at the ESS campus in Lund, Sweden. 

About you:

We are looking for a technician with practical experience in technical workshops and, ideally, building demonstrators, handling and maintaining medical equipment or similar complex devices. In particular, you should have the following experience:


• A certified professional education in the field of Mechanical, Electromechanics or Mechatronic Technology (electrical, mechatronics technician, Industrial technician or similar certified professions) would be an advantage.
• 5 or more years of experience in an engineering or other highly technical environment is a prerequisite.
• Proven mechanical dexterity, able to manipulate precision jobs and to assemble complex parts.
• Certified training for work on Low Voltage Systems (<400V) and/or experience of electrical assembly of cabinets and/or troubleshooting PLCs and motion control systems would be considered a strong advantage.
• The ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and mechanical drawings Certified training for work on Low Voltage Systems (<400V) and/or experience of troubleshooting PLCs and motion control systems would be considered a strong advantage.
• Practical experience with workshop electrical measuring equipment, isolation, resistance, impedance, etc.
• Very good oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of Swedish would be an advantage.

Wide-ranging experience of mechanical or electronic processes and practices is desirable. Hands-on experience with rack integration, signal and power cabling, cable termination, and grounding practices as well as familiarity with servo and stepper motors, drives, and encoder/resolver systems would be an advantage.

Other requirements important to the position are the ability to have an attention to detail, the ability to take on multiple tasks, adaptability, be a team player, and having a strong safety ethic.

About the role:

The ESS is at an exciting turning point. It is in transition from being a construction site, to being an operating facility. To help us realise our goal of being the most powerful neutron source in the world, we are seeking to appoint a Technician to join our Neutron Chopper Systems group. The Chopper Systems Group is responsible for management of design, engineering, manufacturing maintenance and operation of the neutron chopper systems. 

As a Technician for Neutron Chopper Systems at ESS, you will be an integral part of the Neutron Chopper Group, contributing to the forefront of scientific research. This role involves a hands-on approach to the maintenance, assembly, manufacturing, installation, and testing of both electrical and mechanical systems that are critical to the operation of neutron choppers. Your technical expertise will be essential in advising mechanical engineers on best practices and production methods, as well as in handling and operating workshop equipment including manual drills, lathes, mills, and soldering tools.

You will also play a key role in executing equipment test programs, procuring parts, and ensuring that the neutron chopper facilities are maintained to the highest standards. The role also includes responsibilities in R&D, quality assurance processes, and safety management within the workshop environment. Additionally, you will contribute to the administrative aspects and documentation required to keep operations running smoothly. Occasional travel and work abroad may be necessary as part of this dynamic and varied role.

This is a full-time, permanent position based at the ESS Campus in Lund, Sweden.

Om rollen:

ESS befinner sig vid en spännande tidpunkt, och går från att vara en byggarbetsplats till att bli en operativ anläggning. För att hjälpa oss att uppnå vårt mål att bli världens mest kraftfulla neutronkälla söker vi nu en mekanisk tekniker till vår “neutron chopper” grupp. En neutron chopper är en specialiserad elektromekanisk maskin som formar partikelstrålar med hjälp av skivor som roterar med mycket höga hastigheter (upp till 20 000 rpm).

Tjänsten är bred, spännande och praktisk. Som en tekniker i chopper-gruppen, inkluderar din roll drift, installation, tillverkning, bearbetning och provning av både elektriska och mekaniska system som är viktiga för säker funktion av våra neutron choppers. Du ska också använda din erfarenhet och kunskap för att ge råd till våra mekaniska ingenjörer om t.ex. tillverkningsmetoder, inköp, säkerhet och kvalitetssäkring.

Vi söker någon med tidigare erfarenhet från en ingenjörs- eller annan liknande teknisk miljö. Utöver det förväntar vi oss att du har:

* Relevant gymnasieexamen eller motsvarande

* Minst 5 års erfarenhet av industriellt el underhåll eller installation

* Behörighet, AL, enligt Elsäkerhetsverkets behörighetskrav med ELSÄK-FS 2017:4

* Kännedom om industriella elektriska beteckningar och säkerhetsföreskrifter

* Förmåga att läsa och tolka elektriska scheman och ritningar.

You are a passionate Mechanical Engineer with solid experience in automotive industry looking for a new and interesting project.


We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer that will take the role as Function Owner within the area of Powertrain Engineering. In this role you are part of a system and concept team in the department. The main part of the activities is closely related to calibration and testing. working with the following responsibility:


*) Create and/or gather functional and technical requirement specifications to enable development and testing of the functions assigned for the project to Powertrain Engineering. That would provide the best reliable functionality, quality and meet all related regulatory requirements.
*) Deliver/maintain Functional Implementation Plan (FIP), report deviations from plan, initiate and follow up corrective action.
*) Resolve project fault reports by identifying root cause and corrective actions required.
*) Assist with development for improvement of components, systems, costs or assembly/manufacturing methods.
*) Make sure that all the functions are tested and reported in Systemweaver.
*) Handshake of functional requirements realized in nodes and systems.


The main functions include in the responsibility area are the following:
*) Convert Energy to Torque
*) Vehicle Speed Limitation
*) Vehicle Speed Control
*) Gear Recommendation
*) Propulsive Management
*) Propulsion Modes


Requirements:
*) Bachelor or master’s degree in engineering or the equivalent experience
*) 5 years of relevant experience as a function owner, System Engineer or similar, within the Powertrain/driveline domain.
*) Very good knowledge about powertrain functions.
*) Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
*) Ability to travel 2 times a year
*) Knowledge of MS office, PLM tools
*) Meriting is knowledge in tools for product management like System Weaver.


Start: asap.
Extent: Full-time, 40h/week.
Compensation: Negotiable.
