We are now looking to appoint a Chopper Development Engineer for the Neutron Scattering Systems (NSS) division.
The NSS Division is responsible for construction and commissioning of the 15 neutron beam instruments for the ESS. The division provides the underlying technology and supervision required for the design, construction, installation and maintenance of neutron instruments at the ESS. Specifically, the Neutron Chopper Group, where the vacant role is placed, develops in-house and in collaboration with European partners state-of-the-art neutron choppers, meeting challenging requirements with diverse technologies, many adopted from other disciplines.
About the role
As the successful candidate for the Chopper Development Engineer role your main areas of responsibility will be to:
• Coordinate and perform activities related to the development of neutron choppers and specifically in relation to the Scope Transfers from the in kind partners for the *design, procurement, integration, testing and delivery of high energy absorbing (T0) choppers for the DREAM, ODIN and HEIMDA*L neutron scattering instruments
• Lead, participate in activities related to the installation, commissioning and maintenance of chopper systems across the instrument suite.
• Ensures the supply of all required documentation for the integration, installation, use and maintenance of deliverables.
• Ensuring the safe operation, performance and maintainability of systems under development.
• Contribute to the scientific output and reputation of ESS, through developments, directly or indirectly relating to neutron chopper technology such as coating of chopper discs
• Serve as a chopper contact point to the designated instrument teams DREAM, ODIN and T-REX by providing relevant information and instrument support related to neutron chopper systems
• Assist the instrument teams by managing the characterization, preparation, installation, cold commissioning, and training of staff when required,
• Provide required documentation to support the installation and maintenance of components.
About you
We would expect you to have the following background:
• Minimum 5-7 years in a similar international organisation and role, longer experience would be an advantage
• Bachelor or preferred Master degree in a Mechanical engineering discipline
• Minimum 3 years, Experience with 3D Software preferable CATIA and/or Solid works
• Experience in leading the manufacture of multidisciplinary engineering projects involving electro/mechanical components and complex machinery.
• Experience with rotating machinery, kinetic energy storage systems would be an advantage.
• Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite
