You will support world-class research and development as part of the Science and Technology team at Oatly.
You will work to establish and implement laboratory workflows to analyze food components, from raw materials to finished products. Working with a team of scientists, engineers, and product developers, you will establish robust protocols of analysis using modern and industry-standard techniques such as chromatography, various types of spectroscopy, proximate analysis, and physical techniques such as rheology and particle size analysis.
You will support R&D projects on a practical basis, setting up and running experiments and trials at laboratory and pilot scale, and supporting factory scale trials, analyzing a high throughput of samples with relevant techniques, collecting and interpreting data.
You will develop safe ways of working in laboratories, and train and support colleagues to use equipment and carry out research safely. You will inspire people at Oatly to use world class research within a dynamic, collaborative and inclusive environment.
You will contribute to material and data management, as well as maintenance and procurement of equipment and consumables.

A minimum of 3 years of experience working in a laboratory environment.

Working knowledge of analytical techniques such as chromatography, spectroscopy and physical techniques.
Working knowledge of techniques for protein, carbohydrate, fat, moisture, ash and other proximates, as well as small molecule analysis.
Working knowledge of basic data handling and statistical methods.
Knowledge of cereal analysis and evaluation is also desirable.
Knowledge of sample and/or data management, and its importance in quality assurance.
Evidence of working independently and in a team.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
You will apply safe ways of working in laboratories and experimental environments. You will contribute to the organization and record keeping of ingredients and other raw materials, maintenance and procurement of equipment. You will also support in some administrative tasks related to laboratory facilities.In this role, you will use theoretical and practical laboratory experience to perform analysis.
The role will be analytical, operational, and varied, but your typical day to day will involve:
· Sampling in the current production operation
· Analyzing samples (water filtration, microbiological plating, ATP, pH, dry matter, viscosity and texture measurement)
· Interpret laboratory results from micro- and chemical analysis
· Reporting results into LIMS system
· Reacting to deviations generated by laboratory
· Updating instructions when needed

Here’s what you would do,

As a Development Chef at Oatly, you will play a vital role in creating innovative and delicious food and drink recipes using our amazing oat-based product portfolio. You will work closely with our Applications Manager to develop food and beverage recipes that wow our customers across all major European markets. You will also work closely with the Innovation team, contributing with culinary expertise in product development projects.

- Research, explore, and experiment with the Oatly product portfolio to develop new food and drink concepts that showcase the versatility of oats.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Innovation, Science & Technology, ODMC (Oatly Department of Mind Control), the Coffee team and Key Account Managers, to understand customer preferences, market trends, and nutritional needs.

- Create and test recipes in a commercial kitchen environment, utilizing your expertise in taste, texture, and presentation to ensure the highest standards of quality.

- Develop clear and detailed recipe documentation, including ingredient lists, methods, and cooking instructions, for internal and external use.

- Contribute with culinary expertise and product usage evaluations in innovation/product development projects.

As part of the scientist staff in the Analytical Chemistry Platform at Oatly, you will develop new methods based on mass spectrometry coupled to different chromatography techniques. You will work with many business functions at Oatly, including scientists in Food Science and Global Food Innovation. The Analytical Chemistry Platform develop projects across different functions including Food Sciences, Global Innovation among others. WHAT YOU WILL DO

As Research Scientist, you will be responsible for the following tasks:

- Design, develop and execute experimental workflows from sample preparation to data processing and analysis based on project needs.
- Implementation of state-of-the-art chromatography and mass spec technology to increase the analytical portfolio.
- Contribute to the design of studies with other groups in Food Science Department and other departments at Oatly.
- Perform and validate targeted and untargeted LC-MS/MS analyses in different matrices from oat kernels to biological samples tissues from in vivo studies.
- Actively contributing for the maintenance and running of the Analytical Lab facilities.
- Operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of LC-MS/MS (Orbitrap) and GC-MS.
- Responsible for keeping sample records and analytical data in electronic platforms and internal systems.
- Write standard operation procedures, protocols, and work instructions.
- Write reports and peer-reviewed publications.
- Present results to different stakeholders and propose follow-ups to further steps in the project.

THE ROLE

As a Laboratory Technician in Oat Breeding, you will have a key role in supporting the development of new oat varieties that will be used in Oatsome products with for example improved sensory and nutritional qualities. The Breeding and Genomics team is working with oat diversity panels, applying molecular breeding strategies, and performing a wide range of analytical assays to evaluate oat grain quality. The work is at both the low- and high-throughput levels, and will require technical accuracy/reproducibility and meticulous record keeping and communication skills.

This is a wonderful opportunity for a service minded laboratory technician to get in the game and ensure that we can develop the best oats for our products and the planet! The role is a permanent position and the work will be primarily based at our new laboratories facilities in Lund.

Here’s what you can expect in the day-to-day depending on the season:


- dehulling and milling of oat seeds and performing various biochemical and non-destructive analyses

- growing oat plants and extracting DNA/RNA at low and high throughput

- performing PCR for genotyping purposes

- performing electrophoresis methods such as SDS PAGE

- continuously strive to optimise and miniturise workflows in a cost/time effective manner

- handling and preserving of laboratory samples in a systematic manner

- meeting deadlines and deliverables for the Breeding and Genomics team

- document, archive and present your results and observations with the team

- take responsibility for required inventory and order laboratory materials for the breeding team

- when needed, assist in the greenhouse, field and harvesting/threshing of oat material
