Your team
The macromolecular crystallography (MX) group is responsible for the BioMAX and MicroMAX beamlines and the FragMAX fragment screening facility.
BioMAX is in user operation since 2017 with world class performance thanks to the high-performance optics, experiment setup instrumentation, control system and computing resources. MicroMAX is focusing on serial crystallography and time-resolved experiments but will also provide high-throughput crystallography. FragMAX supports large-scale compound screening experiments for academic and industrial users. The international and interdisciplinary MX group consists of around 15 people.
Would you like to work at one of the brightest lightsources in the world?
MAX IV is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to pioneer the implementation of serial crystallography fragment screening at our MicroMAX beamline. This role involves a collaborative effort with the FragMAX team to seamlessly integrate innovative methods into our facility for routine application. The successful candidate will be supported by the MX group's extensive and varied expertise. Additionally, the position entails frequent exchanges with scientists from DESY, the University of Hamburg, and the University of Gothenburg. This is an exceptional opportunity for a creative and driven scientist eager to rethink the application of X-ray crystallography in structure-based drug discovery.
Your main work tasks will be to
- Explore crystallization methods for serial crystallography data collection
- Test various sample supports and develop novel compound application methods
- Develop data collection and processing protocols for high-throughput SSX experiments
- Help integrating the newly developed protocols into the FragMAX platform
- Participate in collaborative research projects with groups from academia and industry
- Occasionally help with general user support at the BioMAX and MicroMAX beamlines.
To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications
- A PhD in structural biology, protein biochemistry, biophysics, chemical biology, or a related field
- Demonstrated expertise in a range of protein crystallization methods
- Experience in X-ray diffraction data collection at synchrotron radiation facilities
- Demonstrated expertise in X-ray data processing and structure determination, refinement and PDB deposition
- Excellent command of English (both spoken and written)
Below are seen as merits
- Experience in serial or time-resolved crystallography
- Experience in crystallographic fragment screening
- Use of robotics or automation
- Programming skills
As a person you are able to work and solve problems independently. A team player committed to the goals of the team. You are pro-active and self-motivated. You have the ability to communicate effectively (both spoken and written)
Eligibility
Appointment to the position of postdoc requires that the applicant has a PhD or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the application deadline. Under special circumstances the PhD can have been completed previous to the aforementioned three years.
Further information
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment. A postdoctoral fellow is employed under a period
of at least two years and at most three years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor-2022-02-01” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow, 2022-02-01”)
