About Us: The Electronics Team is a diverse group of 12 professionals with varying backgrounds,
dedicated to the electronics aspect of our cutting-edge facility. We work with a broad spectrum of
electronics and associated technical aspects of it.

Opportunity: MAX IV currently operates 16 beamlines, and as attention shifts towards optimizing and expanding these beamlines, we are on the lookout for individuals interested in engaging with the challenges of advanced experiments. The role involves constant innovation, adding, rebuilding, and enhancing functionality to achieve extreme performance levels. If you have experience in this domain or are eager to dive in, this might be the perfect opportunity for you.

Key Responsibilities: As a team member, you'll be involved in utilizing various tools and techniques, collaborating with diverse groups. While electronics and control system software is the common thread, tasks includes signal measurement and triggering, detector knowledge, motion technology (stepper motors and nano positioning), optics and lasers, building, commissioning, and supporting instruments. In addition, share and gain technical as well as scientific experience in experiments.

Qualifications: To excel in this role, you need:

- A relevant university degree.
- Experience in analog and/or digital electronics.
- Excellent communication skills in English (spoken and written).


Merits: The following will be considered as additional merits:

- Hardware and Electronics: Small signal measurement, motion technology, configuration and
maintenance tool development, troubleshooting, time-sensitive measurements, optics and laser experience.
- Software: Tests, integration, and deployment of electronics in control systems, general Linux skills, Python, git.
- Network and System Infrastructure: TCP/IP layers, fiber, OS configuration.
- Previous experience working in a research-oriented facility (e.g., as a PhD/postdoc).

As a person, you are curious, eager to learn, and possess problem-solving skills. You can address
various aspects of a problem, ensuring a holistic approach without compromising one aspect over
another.

Arbetsuppgifter 
En Koordinator för forskningsdata (Chief Data Officer/Data Management Officer) vid Lunds universitet har en central och strategisk roll i att stödja och utveckla universitetets hantering av forskningsdata. Uppdraget innebär att koordinera och stärka stödet för forskningsdatahantering i samarbete med både interna och externa aktörer, samt att representera Lunds universitet i nationella och internationella nätverk för forskningsdata. Rollen innebär också att leda enhetens strategi för forskningsdatahantering och att säkerställa att resurser används effektivt för att främja beslutsfattande, innovation och långsiktigt värde.

Ansvarsområden
- Samordning och samarbete: Ansvarar för att utveckla och samordna stödet för forskningsdatahantering vid universitetet, i nära samarbete med relevanta avdelningar.
- Omvärldsbevakning: Följer utvecklingen inom forskningsdata, inklusive lagar, regler och internationella trender, samt fungerar som kontaktperson gentemot externa aktörer.
- Nätverksdeltagande: Representerar universitetet i nationella och internationella nätverk för att bidra till utvecklingen av riktlinjer och bästa praxis inom forskningsdatahantering.
- Utveckling av processer: Arbetar med att förbättra rutiner, system och riktlinjer för hantering av forskningsdata, med fokus på säkerhet, effektivitet och akademiska mål.
- Riskhantering: Identifierar och minimerar risker kopplade till datasäkerhet och integritet i samarbete med relevanta enheter.
- Stöd för forskningsinfrastruktur: Säkerställer att universitetets större forskningsinfrastrukturer får relevant information och stöd kring forskningsdatahantering.

 

Kompetens och kvalifikationer
Krav för anställningen är: 

- Erfarenhet av forskningsdatahantering och relevant teknisk infrastruktur.
- Erfarenhet av att leda arbete med datahantering och strategiarbete inom en komplex organisation.
- Erfarenhet av att samarbeta med olika intressenter och bygga nätverk, både internt inom universitetet och externt på nationell och internationell nivå.
- Mycket god förståelse för den akademiska miljön.
- Utmärkt svenska i tal och skrift.
- Minst 5 års relevant arbetslivserfarenhet.

Meriterande för anställningen:

- Vara disputerad.
- Erfarenhet av och arbetat med informationsklassning, skyddsvärda data, och utarbetande av policy och riktlinjer, gärna inom forskningsdatathantering.
- Kunskap om nationella och internationella (EU) lagar och riktlinjer gällande forskningsdata, inklusive GDPR, FAIR-principerna och etikregler.
- Erfarenhet av att arbeta med och/eller ha undervisat i forskningsdatastöd inom en akademisk miljö är meriterande.

Personliga egenskaper
För att lyckas i rollen krävs strategiskt tänkande, en lösningsorienterad inställning och en vilja att ständigt utveckla sig själv och sin kunskap i ämnet. Det är viktigt att ha en god kommunikativ förmåga och en vana att hantera komplexa frågor på ett strukturerat sätt. Rollen kräver också ett proaktivt arbetssätt och en förmåga att skapa långsiktiga relationer och samarbeten.

Övrigt

What you will do:

You will join the Scientific Data group of the Technical Division, a small international team with diverse scientific backgrounds.

We are responsible for the data acquisition from state-of-the-art detectors through to the support and implementation of online and offline scientific data processing, visualisation and analyses.

MAX IV is looking for a Scientific Software Expert for Data Acquisition and Processing with the chance to contribute at all levels of the data acquisition, processing and scientific computing chain. The MAX IV beamlines operate a variety of detectors and cameras, from delay lines to CMOS cameras to mega-pixel photon counting detectors. Detectors are integrated into the wider beamline control system (Tango) and their data are streamed into process pipelines (running in a central Kubernetes cluster) to allow online visualisation of the experiment and data reduction to more manageable formats for analysis by the user. As a member of our group, you will have the chance to master these detector systems and contribute to the algorithms and framework that make up the data processing pipelines. Handling high data rates and volumes while maintaining scientific accuracy is central to the challenge.

Beside other group members you will work closely together with beamline scientists, HPC experts, the controls software group and potentially with MAX IV partners from other large-scale photon and neutron (PaN) facilities. The group supports data analyses from all three major techniques: scattering/diffraction, imaging and spectroscopy, and work closely with the scientists in those areas. You are strongly encouraged to foster your own projects and collaborations and participate in experiments in MAX IV or other facilities in order to connect software experts and scientists.

Your main work tasks will be
• Integration of detectors into control and DAQ pipelines and support of these systems in operation
• Development of data processing, analysis and scientific computing tools, most likely in
scattering/diffraction and imaging domains
• Development of other PaN scientific software projects, e.g. related to data management
• Participation in related experiments.

To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications
• Degree in physics, mathematics, computer science, data science or equivalent qualifications or
experience
• A proven ability in software development for data handling/analysis in a high-level programing
language (Python, C++, etc) in a linux environment
• A documented significant contribution to the development of a scientific software during the last
three years.

MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research laboratory hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden as well as internationally, with state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Denna omställning kräver dessutom att standarder, policy och regelverk utvecklas och anpassas.

Som forskare inom transportsystemens digitalisering kommer du, utöver att vara en aktiv forskare inom ditt område, ofta att verka i tvärvetenskapliga sammanhang med medlemmar från olika delar av institutet. Du tar initiativ till och samordnar projektansökningsarbete, internt utvecklingsarbete och större forskningssatsningar. Som forskare kommer du att bidra till nya projekt åt dig själv och kollegor på institutet, samt att du ofta är projektledare i sådana projekt. Your team
The macromolecular crystallography (MX) group is responsible for the two beamlines BioMAX and MicroMAX and the fragment screening facility FragMAX, supporting structural biology research aiming at understanding biology at a molecular level with applications in drug development and biotechnology.

BioMAX is in user operation since 2017 with world class performance thanks to the high-performance optics, experiment setup instrumentation, control system and computing resources. BioMAX is in particular used for high-throughput MX but is also for microfocus applications, phasing experiments and room-temperature crystallography. It has also developed a program in serial crystallography and time-resolved experiments. MicroMAX is designed to be flexible both in terms of optics and experiment setup. It is focusing on serial crystallography and time-resolved experiments but will also provide for example high-throughput structure determinations. MicroMAX is expecting first users in 2023.

BioMAX and MicroMAX use MXCuBE (https://github.com/mxcube) for users to control their experiments. When collection experiments start, MXCuBE triggers data analysis and processing pipelines, which uses the EDNA framework (https://github.com/olofsvensson/edna2 ). The processing results as well as information on samples and data collections are stored and managed in a LIMS system, ISPyB (https://github.com/ispyb).
The international and interdisciplinary MX group consists of around 15 persons.

Would you like to work at one of the brightest lightsources in the world?

MAX IV is looking for a computational scientist to develop the data analysis and processing workflows for MicroMAX.

Your main work tasks will be

- Your tasks will include design, programming and testing the data analysis framework for new experiment methods and setups for the macromolecular crystallography activities at MAX IV, as well as maintaining and adapting these.
- Initially your focus will be on different data analysis and processing pipelines for the MicroMAX beamline, in particular for serial crystallography techniques. The pipelines that are based on existing software need to be interfaced with the beamline control software and laboratory information management system (LIMS). You will contribute to design and develop the presentation of the processing results, including plots and graphics. Support during experiments will also be an important aspect of your work.
- You will develop the data analysis framework for MicroMAX in close collaboration with colleagues in the MX group and in the scientific software and controls groups. We collaborate with groups at other facilities and user groups. Interaction with these will also be important.
- New detectors can continuously acquire data at kilohertz frame rates, and as most experiments require on-the-fly data analysis for immediate feedback your tasks will also include interacting with the developments in experiment control, data acquisition and high-performance computing infrastructure.
- Depending on competence, your interest and the needs of the beamline, the tasks will also include user support and involvement in other beamline development projects.

To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications

- Either (1) a software engineering degree or (2) documented computer skills and experience in macromolecular crystallography
- Experience with Python and / or C/C++
- Experience in developing scientific software
- Working knowledge of Linux systems and tools
- Interest in working on all project levels of a software project (design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance) and knowledge of collaborative software development
- Ability to cooperate and work in a team, but also an ability to work independently
- Good communication skills, and an excellent command of English, both oral and written

An impressive list of papers and patents is a significant plus.
Familiar with Matlab, C, C++ languages, and scripting (Perl, Python, etc.).

En stor fråga för den nödvändiga klimatanpassningen är det snabbt föränderliga förhållandet mellan transport- och energisystemen. Den tekniska utvecklingen av alternativa fordon och energiformer går för närvarande fort och just nu ses elektrifiering som den mest framkomliga vägen mot hållbara transporter. Många frågetecken kvarstår naturligtvis och många instanser (akademin, myndigheterna och privata intressen) arbetar hårt med utvecklingen. På VTI arbetar vi med omställningen på ett tvärvetenskapligt och enhetsövergripande sätt.

I tjänsten ingår både att initiera och genomföra egna projekt och ta ett övergripande ansvar inom området transportsystemets elektrifiering på VTI. Till det senare hör att arbeta med områdets utveckling och finansiering. Som senior forskare inom transportsystemens elektrifiering kommer du att delta i och ofta leda arbetet i tvärvetenskapliga sammanhang med medarbetare från såväl den egna som från andra enheter. Vidare fyller du en viktig funktion som initiativtagare och samordnare av projektansökningsarbete och koordinering av större forskningssatsningar. På detta sätt kommer du att bidra till nya projekt åt dig själv och övriga kollegor. Våra seniora forskare är också viktiga företrädare för institutet gentemot externa samarbetspartners och uppdragsgivare och har till uppgift att utveckla dessa relationer.

ARBETSUPPGIFTER
Tjänsten som forskningsingenjör inom tillämpad artificiell intelligens (AI) är en ny tjänst hos oss och är delad mellan 50 % egen forskning och 50 % arbete med rådgivning, handläggning samt hantering av strategiska frågor kring tillämpningen av AI och maskininlärningsmetodik (ML) inom hälso- och sjukvården. Att tjänsten är ny kommer dessutom att innebära att du är med och bidrar och bygger upp kompetens och infrastruktur i dessa frågor.

Forskningen på 50 % kommer huvudsakligen att handla om COVID-19 och förbättrad pandemiberedskap inför framtiden och vara knuten till Lunds universitet. Forskningen kommer att ingå både i de projekt som drivs av Kliniska Studier Sverige, exempelvis uppföljning av COVID-19 vaccinernas effektivitet och säkerhet på lång och kort sikt, samt också ingå i pågående tematiska samverkansinitiativ för förbättrad pandemiberedskap. Samverkansinitiativet har fått finansiering från bland annat Vinnova och är del av en tvärvetenskaplig forskningsmiljö i vilken många aktörer ingår, såsom bland annat Region Skåne, Lunds universitet, Umeå universitet, Halmstad högskola och Region Halland.

Det dagliga forskningsarbetet kommer att omfatta studiedesign och operationalisering av forskningsidéer, hantering av stora mängder data, tillämpning av ML-metoder, statistiska analyser, tolkning av resultat och vetenskapligt skrivande.

Resterande 50 % kommer du att arbeta med att stötta andra forskningsprojekt inom Södra sjukvårdsregionen som bygger på AI/ML-metodik. En tydlig trend är att storleken på datamängderna ökar och därmed ökar kraven på infrastruktur och kompetens kring hur data ska bearbetas och utnyttjas för forskning. Du kommer att arbeta tillsammans med statistiker, epidemiologer och systemutvecklare inom Forum Söder som har det gemensamma uppdraget att bidra i alla steg av datahantering inom ett forskningsprojekt. Stegen kan omfatta allt från uttag från lokala och nationella register, till sammanställning, bearbetning och statistiska beräkningar.

Arbetsuppgifterna kommer innebära stor variation både i forskningsfrågeställningar, datastruktur och storlek på uppdrag med allt från kortare rådgivning till långvariga partnerskap. Du kommer även att arbeta med strategiska och generella infrastrukturfrågor som rör utveckling, test och implementering av AI/ML-lösningar inom hälso- och sjukvården.

KVALIFIKATIONER
Gällande de formella kraven söker vi dig som har:
• Doktorsexamen inom beräkningsbiologi, tillämpad matematik, fysik, bioinformatik, datavetenskap, epidemiologi, folkhälsovetenskap eller annat närliggande ämnesområde.
• Erfarenhet av arbete med tillämpad AI, ML-metoder eller NLP (Natural Language Processing).
• Goda kunskaper i svenska och/eller engelska i tal och skrift.

Vidare är det meriterande om du har:
• Omfattande kunskaper i studiedesign och operationalisering av forskningsidéer, statistisk analysmetodik, värdering av risken för systematiska fel och tolkning av resultat.
• Erfarenhet av att bearbeta individuppgifter från hälsodataregister för forskning eller statistikframställning.
• Tidigare forskningserfarenhet om infektionssjukdomar och epidemiologisk övervakning, metodutveckling samt forskning och utveckling knuten till stora datainfrastrukturer och datamängder från olika källor.

Beskrivning av arbetsplatsen
Anställningen som forskningsingenjör är placerad i forskargruppen Aktivt och hälsosamt åldrande.

Arbetet omfattar också insatser för forskare i forskargruppen Tillämpad Gerontologi. Forskargrupperna är samlokaliserade och anslutna till det tvärvetenskapliga Centre for Ageing and Supportive Environments (CASE) och samarbetar också med forskare aktiva inom Lund University Population Research Platform (LUPOP). CASE engagerar seniora och juniora forskare som representerar olika discipliner och professioner, exempelvis epidemiologi, gerontologi, arbetsterapi, folkhälsovetenskap, psykologi och ekonomi, vid fyra av universitetets fakulteter. LUPOP är en samlad infrastruktur vid Lunds universitet för befolkningsundersökningar som bygger på data från enskilda individer.

Arbetsuppgifter och ansvarsområden
Du kommer att ingå i sammanhang som engagerar epidemiologer, gerontologer, arbetsterapeuter och andra hälsovetare, psykologer m. fl. i omfattande nationellt och internationellt sammanhang. Tjänsteresor kan ingå.

Du kommer att ha ansvar för kvalificerad hantering av data i stora nationella registerdatabaser och ett flertal kohortstudier som lagras och analyseras inom LUSEC (en säker plattform för datahantering vid medicinska fakulteten).

Specifika ansvarsområden:
- Planera, administrera, genomföra och dokumentera länkning mellan stora databaser, såväl nationella registerdata som data från kohortstudier.
- Upprätta datahanteringsplaner och andra styrdokument.
- Planera, genomföra och dokumentera kvalitetskontroll och ”data cleaning” av stora databaser, såväl nationella registerdata som data från kohortstudier.
- Identifiera och selektera relevanta variabler i olika klassifikationssystem, exempelvis ICD diagnoskoder, ATC läkemedelskoder, interventions- och åtgärdskoder.
- Rådgivning och praktiskt stöd avseende datahantering till forskare och annan projektpersonal.
- Medverka med datahantering och förberedande statistiska analyser i samarbete med olika konstellationer av forskare inför publicering av forskningsresultat. Beroende på den anställdes intresse och motivation kan självständiga statistiska och epidemiologiska analyser av data komma att ingå.
- Planera, administrera, genomföra och dokumentera uttag av data till forskare som beviljas tillgång till forskningsdata, såväl internt som externt.
- Medverka i relevanta aktiviteter inom forskargrupperna, CASE och LUPOP. Även andra arbetsuppgifter kan förekomma.

Kvalifikationer 
Vi söker dig som har akademisk utbildning på avancerad nivå inom för anställningen relevant ämnesområde, företrädesvis epidemiologi, statistik, ekonometri, datavetenskap eller annan utbildning eller erfarenhet som arbetsgivaren bedömer likvärdig.

Krav för anställningen är:
- Du ska ha mycket goda datorkunskaper, inklusive erfarenhet av att arbeta med Microsoft Office.
- Du ska ha dokumenterad erfarenhet av självständigt arbete med datahantering främst inom forsknings- eller utredningsverksamhet, alternativt i form av självständigt fördjupningsarbete inom akademisk utbildning på grund- eller avancerad nivå.
- Dokumenterad erfarenhet av arbete med statistikprogram som STATA, R, SAS eller motsvarande.
- Dokumenterad erfarenhet av arbete med stora datamängder inklusive länkning av registerdata.
- Du ska ha god förmåga att lägga upp effektiva och säkra rutiner för datahantering och forskningsadministration.
- Mycket god förmåga att kommunicera korrekt i tal och skrift på engelska är ett krav.
- Noggrannhet är ett krav, liksom hög grad av självständighet och pålitlighet.

Arbetet innebär många sociala kontakter varför det är viktigt med en hög grad av servicekänsla och förmåga att kommunicera på ett lyhört och smidigt sätt. Key features of the target station are the target itself, the neutron moderator and reflector system, and the neutron beam-extraction system. However, the group has not only the responsibility for spallation physics related topics within target, but ESS wide. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


• Particle transport calculations to optimize the output of the target-moderator-reflector system, life-time estimates for irradiated components, shielding and activation calculations.
• Development of computer tools and thermal and cold neutron scattering cross-sections (scattering kernels) for particle transport simulations.
• Experimental verification and development of new moderator-reflector systems and other spallation physics related concepts.
• Study of materials of interest for the operations and the performance of the facility.
• Interface to the neutron scattering instrument teams to provide source terms for the instrument optimizations.

As part of our computer tools we are maintaining and developing a program called CombLayer. At ESS we are using this tool to generate geometries for the whole ESS facility in a flexible way, materials, source definitions, and variance reduction parameters to improve the statistical accuracy of the calculations. We are therefore looking for an experienced software developer with a background in neutron or high-energy physics to be the leader of this program.

Description of main responsibilities

The Software developer and Monte Carlo simulation scientist will primary focus on software development related to Monte Carlo transport codes. This task will initially be focused on the development and maintenance of CombLayer. At a later stage it will also involve the improvement of the physics in e.g. MCNP(X), which is of importance to ESS, but could also include modifications to the burn-up code Cinder and the cross-section code NJOY, or work with abinitio codes.

Qualifications

We expect the successful candidate to have the following skills and experience: 


• PhD in physics, chemistry, computer science or equivalent
• At least 5 years of experience developing software
• Very advanced knowledge of C++
• Knowledge of other programming languages, such as Python and Fortran, is desirable
• Experience with use of particle transport codes, such as MCNP, FLUKA, or Geant4, and track record of publications is desirable.
• Experience with burn-up codes like Cinder or Fispact is desirable.
• Experience generating scattering kernels with NJOY is desirable.
• Experience with molecular modeling and abinitio codes is desirable.
• Background in nuclear or particle physics is desirable.
• The ability to obtain a license for MCNP(X) and Cinder.

Experience of working in an international environment is an advantage and excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite.

Arbetsuppgifter

- Medverkan vid framtagning av ramverk för VR-simulation i spelmotordriven utvecklingsmiljö.

Kvalifikationer

The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a software developer and Monte Carlo simulation scientist in the Target Division.

Description of division

The ESS Target Division is part of the ESS Machine Directorate with responsibility to design, develop, procure, install, commission and test the systems needed to convert the energetic proton beam coming from the accelerator to neutron beams that are utilized for experiments. 

We have an ambitious program of maintenance and development of C++ tools to help generating the input files used for the Monte Carlo simulations. This includes generating geometries of the whole ESS facility in a flexible way, materials, source definitions, and variance reduction parameters to improve the statistical accuracy of the calculations. We are therefore looking for an experienced software developer with a background in neutron or high-energy physics to be the leader of this program.

Description of main responsibilities

The Software developer and Monte Carlo simulation scientist will have the following areas of responsibilities: 


• Software development related to Monte Carlo transport codes, which will be the primary job task
• Develop knowledge of and maintain technical expertise in the field of particle transport codes
• Use of particle transport codes for neutronic and nuclear calculations for ESS

Qualifications

We expect the successful candidate to have the following skills and experience: 


• PhD in physics, computer science or equivalent
• At least 5 years of experience developing software
• Very Advanced knowledge of C++
• Knowledge of other programming languages, such as python and Fortran, is desirable
• Experience with use of particle transport codes, such as MCNP, FLUKA, or Geant4, and track record of publications is desirable
• Background in nuclear or particle physics is desirable
• The ability to obtain a license for MCNP

Experience of working in an international environment is an advantage and excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite. 

To be successful and perform well in this position the right candidate needs to have a genuine interest in producing nice and structured code, documented in a proper way. It is important to be a team player, be enthusiastic about the work, and be self-motivated. You should also be goal-oriented and be used to working towards deadlines.
